Port / Marine Facilities

ELNG is licensed to:
Establish, manage, operate, exploit and maintain a specialized port in Idku for 50 years. The port is located on the east of Bay of Abu Qir, 40 km east of Alexandria and is defined by the Presidential decree no. 10 of 2004. The terminal and its approach channel are dedicated to LNG tankers with ranges of 40,000 m3 to 165,000 m3 capacity.

The Idku LNG port consists of:

  • Jetty with all its topside facilities
  • Aids to navigation
  • Breakwater
  • Access channel, turning basin and berthing basin
Port Operation
The Egyptian Operating Company for Natural Gas Liquefaction Projects S.A.E. (ELNG-OPCO), being delegated as the competent port administrator of the Idku LNG Port by Egyptian Council of Ministers Decree no10 of 2004, recognises that safe, reliable and efficient port operations are integral part of the overall Company’s business performance.

ELNG-OPCO will implement the following to promote best practices and awareness of health, safety, security and environment at work within the port facilities of Idku LNG Port:
  • Take reasonable care, so long as the Idku LNG Port is open for LNG Tanker and other supporting vessels, that they may navigate without danger to the lives of the crew of the LNG tankers or other support vessels. Conduct the port operations activities in a way that reduces risks to as low as reasonably practicable (ALARP).
  • Take such actions considered necessary or desirable to the maintenance, improvement or conservancy of the Idku LNG Port.
  • Comply as a minimum with legislation and associated Egyptian and international codes of practice and, where necessary and reasonably practicable, improve on the performance standards they specify.
  • Develop and maintain a set of port operating and maintenance procedures for all port operating activities. Liaise and coordinate with Governmental Authorities for smooth operations of the port.
  • Port facilities are fitted with adequate requirements for night time operations
